Vehicle Storage Tips

• Make sure to give it a good wash. Water stains or bird droppings left on the car can damage the paint. Make sure to clean the wheels and undersides of the fenders to get rid of mud, grease or tar. For added protection, give the car a coat of wax.
• Change the oil.
• Fill up the tank.
• Don't use the parking brake. It's usually a good idea to use the parking brake, but don't do it when you leave a car in storage.
• Make sure your tires are inflated to the recommended tire pressure.
• Try to cover any gaps where a mouse could enter, such as the exhaust pipe or an air intake.

 

Motorcycle Storage Tips

• Take your bike out for a ride or let the engine run for 10 to 15 minutes.
• Fill up the gas tank while you are out and add the stabilizer. Make sure you have left yourself at least 5 minutes more of driving time to let the stabilized fuel work its way around the entire fuel system.
• Change the oil and filter while the bike is still warm from being run.
• Remove any dirt from around the spark plugs and holes, remove spark plugs and spray some fogging oil into the cylinders to lubricate the cylinder walls.
• Wash, dry and wax your bike to remove any road salt.
• Spray all rims, chain, frame etc. with WD40.
• Cover with a breathable cloth.

 

Boat Storage Tips

• Prepare your engine in accordance with the owner's manual.
• Completely fill the fuel tank with gasoline and add a fuel conditioner/stabilizer in proper proportions to preserve the fuel.
• Thoroughly clean the hull, decks, cockpit, bilge, all compartments, lockers and engine exterior, and then coat with an appropriate wax or preservative.
• Drain fuel lines, pumps, carburetor and tanks or fill completely and add fuel stabilizer.
• Place a cover over the engine. Do not leave the engine exposed to the sun or rain.
• Check the tire pressure of the boat trailer and cover tires if they will be exposed to the sun. Check and pack wheel hubs, if necessary, and lubricate jack.

 

RV Storage Tips

• Remove all perishable food from cabinets.
• Clean air conditioner filters.
• Remove batteries, store in an area not subject to freezing and test periodically; charge if necessary.
• Empty and thoroughly rinse all holding tanks. In the winter, all water tanks, lines and pumps should be drained and filled with non-toxic RV antifreeze to keep any remaining water from freezing the system.
• Turn off refrigerator; verify all power sources are off by checking 12 volt, 110 volt and LP gas.
• Check tire pressure and cover tires if they will be exposed to the sun.
• Service all locks and hinges with spray lubricant to prevent rusting and freezing.
• Check all operating fluid levels under the hood and add a stabilizer. Also, don’t forget to top off the gasoline tank!

 

Snowmobile Storage Tips

• Run the engine for about 10 minutes, pulling on the oil pump cable to hold it open. This will ensure that there is sufficient oil circulating throughout the engine.
• Completely fill the fuel tank with gasoline and add a fuel conditioner/stabilizer in proper proportions to preserve the fuel.
• Remove the battery and charge it. Store it in a cool, dry place.
• Block off the muffler outlet, carburetor air intake, cooling system intake and outlet holes. This will prevent small animals from building nests.
• Coat all exposed metal surfaces, nuts, bolts and fasteners with a preserving oil like WD40 to prevent them from rusting while in storage.
• Remove the drive belt and make sure to store it unrolled. This prevents damage to the drive belt and clutches.
• Loosely cover your machine and if possible store on blocks elevated from the storage unit floor.

 

ATV Storage Tips

• Wash, rinse, and dry your ATV. Bugs and brake dust will only increase the chances of winter corrosion.
• Wax painted and chromed parts.
• Lubricate every item that could corrode during a long period of storage.
• Top up the fuel to 7/8 full, about the bottom of the filler neck, to prevent condensation inside the tank.
• Run the engine for about 10 minutes to get it up to operating temperature and to distribute stabilizer through the lines.
• While the engine is still warm, change the oil and oil filter.
• Remove the battery and charge it. Store it where it won’t freeze and hook it up to a trickle charger.
• Use a waterproof tarp to protect an ATV stored outside; a breathable cover is better for interior storage units.
